Qatar Aviation Services, Qatar Airways and Hamad International Airport to adopt innovative baggage tracking systems Electronic Baggage Tags (EBT)

Fully supporting IATA’s resolution for baggage tracking, QAS one of early adopters of the Electronic Baggage Tags.

DOHA, Qatar – Qatar Aviation Services (QAS), Qatar Airways, and Hamad International Airport (HIA), are the first ground handling agent, airline, and airport in the Middle East and North Africa region to be confirmed ready to accept Electronic Baggage Tags (EBT).

Following the successful completion of the readability testing for EBTs, passengers travelling through HIA can now benefit from this world-leading technology in baggage handling competence, through Qatar Aviation Services (QAS) which handles all baggage operations at HIA, QAS’s hub airport.

The programme aims to provide a more seamless travel experience for passengers, including reduced time spent in queues, a simplified baggage drop process and increased relaxation time at the airport, as well as providing greater operating and carbon efficiency.  In the future customers will have a permanent electronic bag tag removing the need to print and apply traditional bag tags.
Qatar Airways and HIA are taking the lead on re-inventing the passenger’s journey where Qatar Aviation Services (QAS) plays a significant role as a responsible stakeholder for providing premium ground handling services and acting as the operational backbone of the airport.

Qatar Aviation Services is working towards fulfilling the IATA Resolution 753 on Baggage Tracking through adopting innovative technologies in order to continue providing a seamless travel experience for all passengers traveling with our customer airlines.

Additionally, HIA, QAS’s hub airport, is going a step further in implementing its Smart Airport initiative aimed at empowering passengers through cutting-edge technologies. The airport’s passenger-centric approach is designed to give passengers full control and independence over their journey, from arrival and transfers to boarding, achieving minimal and seamless connection time.
